Pregnancy Anatomy Icebreaker Activity | String Them Together!

Looking for a hands-on, highly engaging way to break the ice or recap key pregnancy vocabulary? String Them Together is the perfect interactive activity to get your learners moving, talking, and visualising real-life anatomy measurements!

Whether you are an antenatal educator/birth worker welcoming a new cohort of expectant parents, or a secondary school biology/health teacher wrapping up a unit on human reproduction, this versatile resource builds community while teaching essential facts.

How It Works

  1. Grab a String: Participants choose a mystery length of colorful string from a basket.
  2. Find Your Match: They move around the room to find the person or couple with the exact same length of string to form a team.
  3. Find your Anatomy Fact Card: Teams now look for their anatomy fact card that matches their length of string i.e. card: “average length of the umbilical cord” matches string length of 55cm.
  4. Connect & Learn: Teams spend 3 minutes getting to know each other (using the built-in icebreaker prompt) and match their string to a hidden anatomy statement card.
  5. Reveal: The group comes together for introductions and to reveal the fascinating anatomy measurements!

Perfect For:

  • Birth Workers & Childbirth Educators: An ideal, low-pressure icebreaker for expectant couples in antenatal or hypnobirthing classes.
  • Secondary School Teachers: A fantastic, active-learning vocabulary recap for high school anatomy, biology, or health classes covering pregnancy and fetal development.
